How to size a home battery
Battery sizing has two parts: how much energy you need stored (kWh) and how much power you need at once (kW). Getting either wrong leads to disappointment during an outage.
Equipment we install
Selected for your home. Designed to work together.Step 1: Define the goal
- Backup for essential circuits
- Whole-home backup
- Rate optimization
- Storing solar
Step 2: Measure the loads
We review your bills and, where useful, circuit-level data to understand daily usage and peaks. Motors such as well pumps and compressors need surge capacity to start.
Step 3: Plan for the future
Heat pumps and EV chargers change your load profile. Modular batteries let you add capacity later; others do not.
Frequently asked questions
Can a battery run my heat pump during an outage?
Sometimes. Heat pumps draw significant power in cold weather, so this needs to be designed for specifically — including surge and runtime.
